Incredibly, the licensing panel at Camden Council granted a 2am license plus 30 minutes drinking up time (2.30am) to the Bloomsbury Ballroom, knowing that their Planning permission limits their operation to 2am. Cllr. Jonathan Simpson (Lab) chaired this meeting and he very effectively dismissed the more modest drinking hours suggested by the 2 other members of the panel – Cllr. Don Williams (Con) and Cllr. Syed Hoque (Lab).
This venue has a capacity of 880 persons (total seating and standing).
License details:
Monday to Thursday 10am – 1.30am plus 30 minutes
Friday and Saturday 10am – 2.00am plus 30 minutes
Sunday – 12.30am plus 30 minutes
The licensing panel further stipulated that entry this venue must be advance ticket only allowing for 10% ‘guest’ tickets available at the door.
The Council struggled to get 3 councillors for this panel. The original chair did not arrive and one other was late.
Observers noted that everyone in the room, bar the panel, seemed somewhat bemused by the proceedings.
We will be monitoring the late night activity surrounding these premises and will offer local resdients our support.
Vince Power has invested a considerable amount of money into this venture and we hope he will also take the trouble to invest some of his time into understanding the sensitive nature of the immediate area around the venue.
