Parliament has given the go-ahead to the Business Improvement District (BID) Regulations signalling the opportunity for businesses across the UK to influence factors which directly affect their trading environment. Holborn Business Partnershop and New West End Company both have DID’s at Business Plan stage.
Local Government Minister Nick Raynsford said, ‘BID schemes will play an important role in creating healthy local economies. I very much look forward to seeing schemes roll out in the future and welcome the contribution they will make to breathing new life into local economies.’
New West End Company is one of 22 National Pilot BIDs supported by Government being run by the Association of Town Centre Management (ATCM). The London Development Agency is also supporting 5 ‘Circle Initiative’ pilots across London.
Jacquie Reilly, Project Director for the National BID Pilot commented, ‘BIDs can help deliver a cleaner, safer and more welcoming trading environment changes vital to our town and city centres.
Stephen Ashworth, Chairman of The Circle Initiative added, ‘Now the regulations are through, we can get on with making BIDs a permanent feature of the local business landscape in London.’
